TV’s explosion isolation concept 1 & 2 uses a 2 stage explosion venting in the connection between mill and ground product/air separation stage. The vents are the company’s patented air-cushioned explosion doors, which are also used on silos for the storage of the ground material. They inhibit ingress of air oxygen that would support fire and loss of padding gas in case of emergency inerting. The 1 & 2 concept inhibits accelerated propagation of flame fronts and pressure shocks. Flame front- and pressure shocks will reach a considerably lower velocity, this way.
Conventional explosion diversion by means of just the explosion diverter at the inlet of the filter enables, as result of the mostly long duct, the development of high flame front- and pressure shock velocity.
This is the reason why, in conventional protection, no self-reclosing venting elements are found. They wouldn’t survive the mechanical stress and turn into missiles.
Without the self-reclosing feature of the explosion diverter, air oxygen can freely ingress, just as padding gas for emergency inerting can escape. Fire-related damage can become more severe as result.
